VENICE, FL – August 21, 2008 – Today, the campaign of Christine Jennings announced that she has received the endorsement of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (NCPSSM).
“Christine Jennings’ strong commitment to keeping Social Security and Medicare strong for both today’s seniors and future generations is unmistakable,” said NCPSSM Executive Vice President Max Richtman. “We are proud to support her, and look forward to her advocacy on these vital social programs as a member of Congress.”
“Safeguarding Social Security and Medicare will be one of my top priorities as a member of Congress, and I am so glad that my commitment has been recognized by NCPSSM,” said Jennings. “The importance of protecting both of these programs cannot be underestimated – that is why I oppose risky privatization schemes and will fight for the responsible management of these programs for the retirees of both today and tomorrow.”
The announcement took place at a town hall meeting at The Village on the Isle, a not-for-profit full-service retirement community in Venice, Florida. Approximately 100 residents and senior citizens attended the event, where they had the opportunity to ask questions and hear updates from Richtman about the work of NCPSSM.
Founded in 1982, NCPSSM is the nation’s leading advocacy group that fights to protect Social Security and Medicare and is dedicated to protecting, preserving, promoting and ensuring the financial security, health and well-being of current and future generations of Americans. With more than 4 million members and supporters nationwide – including about 14,000 in the 13th Congressional District – NCPSSM is devoted to education and advocacy for all citizens.
